Broadcast Journalism 1
Beginning Broadcast students will learn the basics of production and explore the genres of broadcast journalism production (PSA, promotional video, short-form documentary feature, highlight reel, event reporting, and anchor production). Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of video capture with DSLR cameras, audio capture, voice matching and elementary editing techniques. Beginning Broadcast students will also participate in a larger newsroom process, learning how to assess which media reaches a designated audience
Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of on-camera interviewing, with the purpose of eliciting quality video for informational, documentary, feature and illustrative video production. Students will learn basics of equipment and best practices for working with on-camera talents, as well as skills in audio/video voice matching.
Beginning students will integrate interviewing skills with collecting illustrative footage to more completely tell a narrative story in the video reporting medium. They will acquire skills for b-roll collection and learn to evaluate the value of various media.
Students will learn introductory Adobe AfterEffects and produce short f/x sequences which enhance the production quality of video bulletin segments. Students will also learn sound editing techniques to create a more integrated product.
