Junior / Senior Projects information and intelligence
Juniors and seniors in the Areté Media Academy do junior and senior projects just as the rest of Windsor High School, but Areté's projects are more involved and professionally developing than most other senior and junior projects. By virtue of participation in this academy, Areté students participate in a project that is focused upon media, design or technology. To assist in finding a good fit for a junior or senior project, the Areté Media Academy offers several junior and senior project opportunities this year. (If you decide to design your own project, you will need to secure a mentor who is a professional in media, design or technology. Here is a summary of the projects opportunities we have open...
Internship-style Senior & Junior Projects at Windsor High School:
Web TV show production in the WHS studios: Darryl Webb, studio recording professional who guided last year's junior and senior project candidates through a similar project, will return to teach and coordinate a student team who will be responsible all aspects of studio production, including camera work, TriCaster switching, titling, microphone set-up, prompting and studio direction. We will be recording a variety of programs in our studios, as you learn invaluable studio skills.
Audio Recording Workshop: Darryl Webb will return to teach the sometimes mysterious art of studio sound recording and engineering. Darryl brings years of experience of recording an array of (and sometimes famous) artists. You will be learning the arts of mic-ing talent, patching and bussing, recording session protocol, editing in ProTools and the various opportunities for work in sound engineering. Students will learn various studio practices, which will culminate in a live taping session/house concert in our digital media studios.
3D Modeling in Maya: This course will introduce you to the world of 3D animation, using Maya. Maya is one of the top industry standards, for creating animations for both today's movies and games. During the ten week course we'll cover changes in the industry, techniques for animation, using Maya itself, and creating a small animation for your final project. With animator and game designer Jim Evans. There will be a separate workshop in 3D Modeling 2 for second year students who wish to challenge themselves and add to their skillset.
Special Project Video Production Select students will produce professional level short-form video for local clientele, including promotional and documentary media. Areté alumni Justin Liddel and Derek Ramos will share his professional videography skills as they guide students to film and edit high-level interviews, b-roll and effects. Students will work with Justin and Derek in the community
Hosts and Facilitators for the year-end Night of Digital Media: Two students (preferably seniors) will event manage and organize student media for our year-end Night of Digital Media. Professional growth opportunities include event planning and production, media management and production, facilitating advertising, and master of ceremony hosting.
Studio Managers: Two key students will oversee Areté's professional equipment and the studio space with creative contributions to management, organization and facilitating use by students and staff. Professional growth opportunities include systems evaluation and creation, facility management, equipment research and purchasing. Students will also receive special instruction in studio components and processes
For Juniors Only:
Volunteering at KRCB: For over 12 years, WHS juniors have been volunteering at KRCB, Sonoma County's local public television affiliate. Volunteer hours take place around event weekends at the television station, and juniors typically finish their 20-hour quota in a single weekend, operating cameras, sound boards, lights and helping with general live production. KRCB already has scheduled weekends in September and later in the year for volunteer opportunities. Our students always return from KRCB having had a satisfying and fun time.
