March 24 - General Video Bulletin Meeting while Sheltered
How is everyone? What are you doing to get by?
We have a real opportunity to build community and to report what is happening in our community
We can help the WHS community feel less isolated
We can bring useful news to the WHS community
This will be fun and important work.
Disclaimer: Production here is optional for the next two weeks. School admin is communicating with you and your families about expected school work for now.
We are going to try to publish something every week. If we are more productive, then we can push out more frequently.
The chief modes for content info sharing will be at my webspace, and at Trello.
Reminders will go out via email and Discord
Feel free to email me.
The Managing Editors and I will decide when to hold more video chats.
What are we going to produce? Here is what we have up on Trello for this week...
We are going to need to crowdsource responses, so it's going to be up to you to get a variety of responses. Use your social media to call for responses. Use your friends to find friends of theirs. It's really important we reach out to as much of the WHS student body as possible
Best Practices for Production While Sheltered in Place
To collect media, our subjects while be recording themselves, largely using video capture tools on their phones and home computers

To collect media, our subjects while be recording themselves, largely using video capture tools on their phones and home computers
Here are few tips to help them:
- Tape in a well lit area, or face a general lighting source like a window or a light fixture that is at least 5 feet away
- Try to keep local noise or music away
- Fix the phone or computer camera at eye level, and put it on a steady surface for a nice steady shot. In more lightweight pieces and responses it might make more sense to let people to hold phones while they are doing something.
- Try to sit closer to the camera than further for better sound capture
- Don't apply any filters to the clip; Broadcast students will do that as needed
- Send clip at full resolution; don't let email reduce the rez. Google has an apparatus for file sharing if the video file exceeds email attachment rules, and all students have access to Google file sharing.
